“Call your agent!” Organic Media Group produces Chinese remake

Organic Media Group, a production company based in Taipei and Los Angeles, announced at the Taiwan Creative Content Fest (TCCF) that it has planned a Chinese remake of the hit French comedy series “Call My Agent!”

The remake centers around a top talent agency in Asia, where a team of savvy and stressed-out agents juggle superstar clients, personal turmoil, and industry politics. The original series spawned international adaptations in approximately a dozen countries.

OMG is targeting the Chinese-speaking diaspora around the world while rooting its productions in Taiwan’s entertainment ecosystem. Despite the local Taiwanese series covering similar territory, OMG co-founder and CEO Steve Chicorell sees it as an opportunity rather than an obstacle.

“Yes, our version will be a remake of the hit series, but we’re adding organic nuances. We’re making it local to Taiwanese, yet international, and we’re inviting superstars from Hong Kong, Singapore, Malaysia, Asian Americans, and yes, even China to join the cast. We’re making sure it can be distributed not only in Taiwan, but around the world,” Chicoler said.

Award-winning French producer Natasha DeVillers, whose credits include Gaumont and Disney’s Moon the Panda, has been working on the film adaptation for several years in collaboration with Taiwanese director Wu Zhongtian and screenwriter Yang Jingxian. The production team is currently seeking financing and is ready to move into pre-production pending a co-financing commitment.

OMG has also announced three other series in development, all of which will be shot in Taiwan. “Detective Daikichi” is a paranormal detective series starring Taiwanese actress Puff Kuo about a slain detective who is brought back to life by an ancient fox demon. It won Best Series Pitch from Mediacorp at last year’s Asia Television Forum.

“The Undertaker” is about a down-on-his-luck misfit who finds meaning in working at a Taiwanese funeral home. The series is nearing completion and is produced by Thurso Chow, who previously won the Golden Bell Award for Best Miniseries or TV Movie for “On Children.”

“Expats: Taiwan — A Day in the Life” is an unscripted series created for both Western and Asian audiences that explores why expatriates love Taiwan and their contributions beyond teaching English. The upcoming season will move to Thailand, Japan and South Korea.

OMG arranged for U.S. distribution of all four projects by ChimeTV, a 24/7 cable network via Charter Spectrum, and Golden TV, a new pan-Asian channel serving 20 million cable homes through streaming and FAST channels.

Co-founded in 2019 by “Bling Empire” stars Kelly Mee Lee and Chicoler, Organic Media Group has offices in Taipei and Los Angeles and specializes in cross-market IP, talent and distribution strategies connecting platforms in Asia and the United States.
