Alexandre Desplat and Edgar Ramirez will be honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award at this year’s Guadalajara Film Festival (GLAFF XV) at the Opening Night Gala on November 6th at the United Theater in Los Angeles.
The Albor de la Vida Award recognizes artists whose work “crosses borders, inspires cultural dialogue through film, and honors outstanding individuals who have had a lasting impact on film, entertainment, and culture.”
Desplat has composed music for films such as The Imitation Game, The King’s Speech, The Grand Budapest Hotel and The Shape of Water, and won an Academy Award for Best Original Score, a Golden Globe Award and a BAFTA Award in 2018. Desplat composed the music for Guillermo del Toro’s Frankenstein, which starred Oscar Isaac and Jacob and was selected for opening night at the festival. Elordi and Mia Goth.
Ramirez’s works include the Academy Award-nominated “Emilia Perez,” “American Crime Story: The Assassination of Gianni Versace” and “Doctor Death.” Ramírez produced and stars in “It Will Be a Night in Caracas,” a thriller set during the 2017 Venezuelan protests, which will be screened at this year’s Guadalajara Film Festival.
“The Albor de la Vida Award celebrates artists whose vision and talent bridge cultures and generations,” festival director Ximena Urrutia said in a statement. “Alexandre Desplat and Edgar Ramirez each express excellence in their respective crafts, one through the universal language of music, and the other through deeply human storytelling that resonates around the world. We are honored to celebrate both on GLAFF’s 15th anniversary.”
In addition to the Lifetime Achievement Award, the Guadalajara Film Festival, in partnership with the Art Directors Guild (ADG, IATSE Local 800) Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee (ADG DEI), will award the Production Designer Award and Mentorship for narrative short films during GLAFF’s 2025 Shorts Block on November 8 at Vidiots in Los Angeles.
“The Art Directors Guild Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee is proud to reaffirm our commitment to fostering connections and collaboration among diverse filmmakers while celebrating the craft and culture that inspires their work,” said Alexander Stam, co-chair of the ADG DEI Committee. “We are proud to expand our partnership with GLAFF through the introduction of this new award, further strengthening our shared mission to inspire, empower and unite creative communities across the industry.”
The festival is sponsored by the University of Guadalajara Foundation USA, the Guadalajara International Film Festival, Grodman Legacy, and the University of Guadalajara.
