The Society of French Language Publishers (SCELF), the association of French publishers, returns to Taipei for the second edition of Shoot The Book! At the Taiwan Creative Content Festival (TCCF), which will be held from November 4th to 7th.
The initiative, organized in collaboration with TAICCA (Taiwan Creative Content Agency) and supported by Institut Français and the French office in Taipei, aims to foster connections between French publishers and Asian audiovisual professionals while promoting book-to-film adaptations.
The program debuted at TCCF last year and is already seeing tangible results. The French children’s book Bob and Marley by author and illustrator Frédéric Marais (published by Seuil Jeunesse) is currently in development as a French-Taiwanese co-production with Go-N Productions and Lusasa Animation.
As part of its strategic partnership with TAICCA, SCELF is accompanying publisher members to Taipei for the second year in a row to meet with audiovisual experts and promote book development in Asia. This new edition of “Shoot the Book”! aims to strengthen ties with Asian publishers and producers, as well as promote French literary talent and publishers’ expertise in IP and adaptations.
In this year’s pitch session, a jury of audiovisual experts selected seven titles (four from France and three from Taiwan) with high adaptation potential. French titles include “Agence Perdido” by Victor Dichsen (Bayard), “Flight of the Stork” by Jean-Christophe Grange (Alban Michel) and “Rosa Dolorosa” by Caroline Dolka (Fenech – Media Participation – Mediatoon –). Éditions de la Martinière), Noël Michel’s “Demain les ombres” (Editis – Le Bruit du Monde), and Emma Green’s “If You Wanna Be My Lover” (Mediatoon – Éditions Addictives).
Taiwanese selections include Tymo Lin’s UNDER: The Jade Corpses (Taiwan Kadokawa Co., Ltd.), Xerxes’ Fish Eye (Links Publishing Ltd.), and Windsays’ Greenhouse Chick (Taiwan Kadokawa Co., Ltd.).
The jury consists of Jeyi An, producer and director of Eightgeman Co., Ltd. in Taiwan; Mr. Panu Ali, director and development director of Neramitnung Film Co., Ltd. in Thailand. and Iliana J. Song, international content producer for Mr. Romance in Korea.
B2B meetings will be held concurrently with pitch sessions during the festival.
