In an alternate timeline, Jennifer Lawrence played Bella Swan opposite Robert Pattinson’s Edward Cullen in the Twilight series.
She revealed on The Rewatchables podcast in 2023 that she was “immediately” turned down by the studio and “didn’t even get a call back.” After 15 years and two blockbuster series, she will finally share the screen with Pattinson in the new movie Die My Love.
“Yeah, this is the perfect revenge I wanted,” she joked to Variety on Saturday night at the New York premiere of her new film.
“Die My Love,” director Lynne Ramsay’s first feature since 2017’s “You Were Never Really Here,” is a frenetic psychodrama in which Lawrence plays a writer whose mental health is crumbling under the pressure of an unstable marriage and motherhood. On screen, Lawrence and Pattinson constantly berate each other in loud verbal wars, a stark contrast to their quiet working relationship.
“Probably my favorite thing about working with him was that even though we were in the same room, we never talked for too long,” Lawrence explained. “As a colleague, I really appreciate it.”
Pattinson recalled that the first movie he saw Lawrence in was the 2010 drama “Winter’s Bone,” in which she played an impoverished teenager searching for her father in the Ozarks.
“I just remember being there with her,” Pattinson said. “When that movie came out, people went to see it and were like, ‘Okay, who is this girl?'” It was like some kind of primal force, and from the moment her career started, you knew she was the biggest star in the world. ”
Winter’s Bone catapulted the 20-year-old Lawrence into the spotlight, earning her the first of her four Academy Award nominations for Best Actress. She auditioned for “Twilight” and about a year later landed the role of Katniss Everdeen in “The Hunger Games,” another YA blockbuster series that defined the early 2010s.
“Die My Love” will be released in theaters on November 7th.
