Now that “KPop Demon Hunters” has become a cultural phenomenon, Lei Ami said that she is “waiting to hear back” about the possibility of a sequel.
“Like you, I’m waiting for your call! I’ll know as soon as I get it. So let’s talk then,” she told E! News on the red carpet of Heidi Klum’s 24th Annual Halloween Party on Friday.
Ami arrived at Klum’s Halloween party dressed as her character Zoe and wearing patchwork parachute pants, as seen in the film’s opening scene.
Regarding the ubiquity of “KPop Demon Hunter,” which inspired this year’s Halloween costumes, the musician said, “Oh my god, it’s everywhere. There’s no getting away from it.”
She continued, “I’m not complaining, please! I want to see more.”
The film, about a K-pop girl group hunting mythical monsters when stadiums aren’t full, has garnered 236 million views, making it Netflix’s most-streamed film in history.
While talking about the film’s popularity, Ami added that he still doesn’t understand that the film became a record hit for the streamer and skyrocketed on the music charts along with the soundtrack.
“This is a cultural phenomenon,” she said. “I’m so honored and in awe and so humbled by the power of music and great art and how it can really, really, really — as cliché as it sounds — change the world. That’s exactly what this movie and this soundtrack have done, bringing so much hope and light into such a dark and dark world. I feel truly honored to be a part of that.”
In addition to Ami, EJAE and Audrey Nuna also provide vocals for the fictional group Huntr/x in “KPop Demon Hunters.”
