Famke Janssen says she was never approached by Marvel to play Jean Grey.
In a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, the “X-Men” star talked about his Marvel roles during his time at Fox, or rather, about being asked about it all the time. She explained that the subject of Jean Gray comes up “every time” in her interviews.
“It’s interesting,” Janssen said. “I didn’t know it was such an important part. Every time I do an interview, it comes up and it’s the only thing I say that gets printed.”
Janssen first appeared as Jean Gray (aka Phoenix) in 2000’s X-Men, and later reprized the role in 2003’s X2: X-Men United and 2006’s X-Men: The Last Stand. She also briefly appeared in 2013’s The Wolverine and 2014’s X-Men: Days of Future Past.
“I’m honored that this character resonated with people,” she added. “It’s been so long, but I’m glad people are still talking about her. I’m sure every time a new movie is made, it’ll be like Doomsday.” …There will be another one. ”
Marvel’s X-Men reboot is currently in development, with Thunderbolts director Jake Schreier at the helm. In an interview with Playlist, Schreier said the new X-Men movie will be “obviously different than anything we’ve seen before.”
“But being able to explore all the ideas that are inherent in that rich source material, on a scale that is unique to that source material, is something of a very rare and fortunate opportunity,” he continued. “It’s very exciting.”
