Claire Danes and Ewan McGregor have been cast to star in Hulu’s upcoming drama series The Spot, directed by writer Ed Solomon. The series is co-produced by 20th Television with A24 as the lead studio.
Danes’ casting came after Kate Winslet left the project in June, citing creative differences. Winslet, who recently helmed the HBO series “The Regime” and “Mares of Easttown,” was set to executive produce “The Spot” through her Juggle Productions banner.
The logline for “The Spot” tells the story of “A successful surgeon and her schoolteacher husband begin to suspect that she is responsible for the hit-and-run death of their child,” and questions begin to arise about their marriage.
Solomon serves as writer, executive producer and showrunner on the series, which serves as the television follow-up to HBO Max’s limited series Full Circle, which he co-created and wrote with Steven Soderbergh. The two collaborated again on the art-world comedy The Christophers, which Neon acquired after its premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival.
In addition to Solomon, Robin Sweet and Ariel Klayman will also serve as executive producers. Directed by Clayman.
Daines and McGregor were first approached to work together more than 20 years ago, when they both starred in Jodie Foster’s unrealized circus drama Flora Plum. Danes will next be seen co-starring with Matthew Rhys in the Netflix miniseries “The Beast Inside Me” in November. Recent credits include his Emmy-nominated work on FX’s limited series “Fleishman Is in Trouble” and starring role in Solomon’s “Full Circle.” McGregor last starred in Paramount+’s limited series A Gentleman in Moscow, for which he was nominated for a Golden Globe and a Critics Circle Award. He will lead Warner Bros. in 2021 after winning an Emmy for starring in Netflix’s “Halston.” SF “Flower Veil Street” is scheduled for release in the summer.
