Tyra brings her grunge mermaid core to the red carpet.
The “Chanel” singer accepted Glamor magazine’s Woman of the Year award on Oct. 30 in London. For the event, she wore a look styled by Ron Hartleben and created by London designer George Trochopoulos. It’s a cropped jacket made entirely of mussel shells with nothing underneath.
She paired the bold top with a shredded black skirt and black heels. Her hair, by Rachel Banjo, was styled in a half-braid and accessorized with gold drop earrings. Her look by Ngozi Edeme included soft pink cheeks, natural lips, and metallic eyeshadow.
In her Glamor cover story, the South African pop star spoke about her approach to beauty and style. “I feel most like Tyra when I’m wearing a protective style or natural hair,” she said. “When you really want to have fun and feel like a character, that’s when you bring out the lace front.”
And her look isn’t complete without something. “If you don’t have a cut in your eyebrows, there’s something wrong with you. I’ll go find a razor. I once pulled out a foot razor blade to cut my eyebrows. Don’t do it at home. I’m careful. I’m a professional.”
She also enjoys making her own clothes and adding her personal touches. “I put on the top, stretch the neck and make it into a skirt. Then I put on the top and cut it. I just make it happen.”
