Sales agent Sola Media has signed the first distribution deal for the CGI animated film Monster Mia, which has a production budget of 9 million euros (approximately $10.4 million), for next month’s American Film Market in Los Angeles.

The film has already attracted buyers in several territories, including Poland (New Horizons), Greece (Tanweer), Bulgaria (Profilms), Mongolia (Film Bridge) and the former Yugoslavia (Kalantaniya Cinemas).

In Germany, Prion Pictures plans to release the film in theaters during the Halloween season in October 2026.

Set in the seemingly perfect town of Primrose, Monster Mia tells the story of Mia and her dirty pet rat, Quentin. After being expelled from school, Mia is sent to the mysterious Rotwood Academy. There, he is the only human in a class full of monsters, so it’s a place where he immediately feels fear.

Principal Van Vlad harbors a deep hatred for humans, and Mia must join forces with her monster classmates to thwart his plans before it’s too late.

Production is led by Austria-based animation studio Arx Anima, in collaboration with Germany’s Arx Anima MD and Peng! boom! Chak! – Cinema and Arxlight Pictures in Spain. Arx Anima’s recent credits include co-producing the animated films “Rabbit Academy,” “The Super Elfkins,” and the hit series “Talking Tom and Friends” (seasons 1-3), which has garnered more than 17.5 billion views across platforms.

Animation studio Boom!, which produced MARK 13 and Peng! Chak! – Films brings 20 years of industry expertise to the project and is known for its work on “Vic and the Sword” and “Maya the Bee.”

Arxlight Pictures’ Spanish producer Nicolás Matji, who produced the “Tadeo” series and “Capture the Flag,” adds further weight to the team.

“When we first read the script about the charismatic Monster Mia, we immediately fell in love with the story,” said Dunja Vernadsky, Managing Director and Producer of Arks Anima. “The film is rich in humor and entertainment, both in terms of its characters and its Monster School setting, but it also conveys the emotional depth of important messages. Themes of self-acceptance, discovering your true potential, the power of friendship, and embracing the unknown are all wrapped up in a quirky, adventurous comedy. What’s not to love?”

Solveig Langeland, Managing Director of Sola Media, added: “‘Monster Mia’ offers the highest quality visuals and well-crafted storytelling that combines humor with meaningful values such as confidence and positivity. It’s a cool and spooky adventure, perfect for Halloween, and a family-friendly way to entertain and educate for all ages.”
