Jason Kelsey says wife Kylie “always wins” when grilling this one dish

Jason Kelce is a man of many accolades: former Philadelphia Eagles center, podcast co-host, husband, and father, but now he can add fragrance muse to that list.

Kelce, 37, spoke with Kelce and those involved in the launch of Kingsford’s Slow Burn, a new limited edition fragrance inspired by the flavors and essence of charcoal and barbecue grills.

“For me, smells evoke really strong memories,” he said. “And I think there are also certain scents that remind you of vivid moments in your life.”

For Kelce, charcoal brings back memories of cooking with his family, playing sports, and hanging out with his college friends.

“My dad always made chicken wings, so he had a barbecue sauce that he wanted to commercialize. My mom was probably smart enough to tell him about it,” he laughed. “But he loved grilling, and he used to grill chicken wings. And charcoal was one of those very vivid memories. Also, at sporting events, we would have family meals and things like that. And there was always a charcoal grill.”

The former Philadelphia Eagles player, who is married to his wife of 33 years, Kyle Kelce, says grilling remains a family tradition for the couple and their daughters Wyatt, 6, Elliott, 4, Bennett, 2, and Finn, 6 months.

And while Kelsey admits her daughters are “picky eaters,” she claims they’re “asking for” food from the grill, especially if Kylie is cooking.

“Kylie definitely does most of the cooking, I’m not going to lie,” he says. “She’s actually good at grilling, too. And I grill, too. I like to grill, and Kylie and I have gone back and forth on ribs before to get better ribs. And she always wins. It’s so frustrating.”

“I love grilling. To be honest, I love eating. I love eating more than anything, but the skill of grilling, the dedication and time, and often doing it with friends and family already behind or next to you, drinking beer and talking. I enjoy it.”

The New Heights co-host recently took her love of food to Kansas City, where she dined with her father, Ed Kelce, at brother Travis Kelce’s 1587 Prime Steakhouse.

“Everything went really well,” Kelce said. “Everything[Travis]recommended was great.”
