From October 24th to October 26th, “Chainsaw Man the Movie” recorded 219,686 admissions and $1.6 million, maintaining its top spot at the Korean box office and capturing a 30.1% market share on 932 screens.
The film has grossed $18.9 million since its Sept. 24 release, according to KOBIS, a tracking service run by the Korean Film Council. This movie is an adaptation of Tatsuki Fujimoto’s hit manga “Reze”. Directed by Tatsuya Yoshiwara and written by Hiroshi Seko, the film depicts Denji’s encounter with cafe clerk Reze, which causes him to be conflicted between intimacy and bloody chaos. Voice actors include Rena Ueda, Ai Fairuz, Tomori Kusunoki, and Maaya Uchida. Sony/Crunchyroll is responsible for market distribution.
The Japanese psychological horror film “Exit 8” opened in second place with 137,173 viewers and $977,292 in box office revenue (17.8% market share). Directed by Genki Kawamura, the film stars Kazunari Ninomiya as a man trapped in an endless subway corridor who must detect minute anomalies in order to escape.
The Korean film “Boss” ranked third with $398,660 (58,838 tickets), bringing the total to $15.97 million. The action comedy directed by Ra Hee-chan stars Cho Woo-jin as Seung-tae, Jung Kyung-ho as Gang-pyo, Park Ji-hwan as Bang-ho, and Lee Kyuhyun as Tae-gyu. The film, which premiered at the Busan International Film Festival, centers on gangster underlings who race to avoid being bossed while pursuing their bizarre personal ambitions.
The stop-motion classic “Coraline” followed with $412,856 (58,134 admissions), making the re-release the highest bid of $1.5 million. Park Chan-wook’s “No Other Choice” was fifth with $327,571 (47,604 attendees) and totaled $19.6 million. Lee Byung-hun plays Man-soo, a laid-off paper manufacturing expert. Mance commits serial murder to eliminate his competitors in search of just one job, but discovers that there is a position to supervise AI testing.
In 6th place was the Japanese hit “Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba the Movie: Mugenjou”, which added $316,549 (41,857 attendees) to reach $41.7 million.
“Jujutsu Kaisen: Hidden Inventory/Early Death – Movie Version” came in 7th place with $235,455 (33,813 attendees, $1.3 million in box office revenue). “One Battle After Another” came in 8th place with $191,265 (24,938 attendees, $3.68 million in box office revenue).
The highly acclaimed Korean drama “The World of Love” debuted in 9th place with $148,882 (21,876 viewers). Directed by Yoon Ga-eun, known for “The World of Us” (Berlinale, 2016) and “The House of Us” (BFI London, 2019), this drama centers on 17-year-old Lee Joo-in (Seo Soo-bin), an unpredictable high school student whose outbursts of anger send ripples through her world. The film had its world premiere at the Toronto Film Festival and won the Roberto Rossellini Jury Prize and the People’s Choice Award in the Crouching Tigers section of the Pingyao International Film Festival.
“Weapons” rounded out the top 10 with $69,110 (9,428 attendees, $532,008 total).
Continuing its spiral trajectory, the top 10 titles totaled $4.7 million in revenue from October 24th to 26th, down from $5.06 million the previous week.
