When it comes to style, Emma Stone always exceeds our wildest expectations.
But this time, she took the mission literally.
The 36-year-old actress appeared in New York City last night wearing a striking vintage Donna Karan design for an appearance on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert. She was in the studio to promote her new film Bugonia, an absurdist dark comedy directed by frequent collaborator Yorgos Lanthimos.
Curiously, Stone’s expression reminded me of one of the most anticipated films of the 1990s, Great Expectations. Gwyneth Paltrow stars alongside Ethan Hawke as the ultimate ruthless New York City belle in this adaptation of the classic Charles Dickens novel.
Paltrow’s character wears green outfits throughout the film, many of which are from Donna Karan’s Spring 1996 collection, including the silky maxi skirts and tops that became iconic for her character Estella.
Notably, Stone took on a style that was almost identical to the one seen in the film. She wore her blouse with a clasp in the middle, showing off her toned midsection.
Instead of block heels, Stone opted for black leather Manolo Blahnik Sousa kitten heels with a crossover design. She had her bobbed red hair parted in the center, like Paltrow’s cool ’90s blonde.
But Ms. Stone opted to part with her oversized embossed crocodile-print handbag and wave to onlookers.
The Academy Award winner is a beloved style chameleon and doesn’t shy away from colorful fashion statements. Earlier this month, at the premiere of Bougonia at the London Film Festival, Stone wowed the crowd in a marigold Louis Vuitton dress customized by designer Nicolas Ghesquière. Working with longtime stylist Petra Flannery, the actress became a symbol of old Hollywood glamour.
After appearing on “The Late Show” yesterday evening, Stone changed into another Louis Vuitton design for the New York premiere of “Bugonia” at the Museum of Modern Art.
The semi-sheer gray knit dress, taken straight from the Spring 2026 runway, was unlined. The photographer’s flash revealed playful high-waisted light blue briefs beneath the stones. She accessorized with a gray Louis Vuitton box bag with silver hardware.
As a longtime Louis Vuitton ambassador, we expect Stone to make an appearance in style. But why not add this archival Donna Karan design to the mix? It shows she has taste, too.
“Bugonia” will be released in theaters on October 31st.
