Taylor Swift and Ed Sheeran’s long-standing friendship is “strained” following the release of their respective albums, Play and The Life of a Showgirl.
Swift reportedly did not inform Sheeran that she would be releasing her 12th album just three weeks after Sheeran, despite once calling him her “second brother.”
The 34-year-old “Perfect” singer released her eighth album on September 12th, and Swift released “LOAS” on October 3rd.
A music industry source told the Daily Mail on Thursday: “Ed takes these things very seriously and is carefully planning the release of his album. He put it out four months ago, and then Taylor put it out just two weeks later.”
As a result, “his team was left scrambling to grab as much attention as possible before she lost it.”
A source claimed: “He was very frustrated and understandably angry. It’s not the first time Taylor has done something like this. She’s getting carried away.”
Sheeran’s album initially debuted at No. 1 on the charts during its release week, but quickly fell outside the top 10 after Swift’s record was released.

The “Shape of You” singer, who has collaborated with Swift on many songs, previously spoke about the timing of the album’s release.
In 2017, he spoke to the BBC at the time about the release of his album ÷ (Divide). “All the people around me who were afraid to release albums released albums last year, like Beyoncé, The Weeknd, Bruno Mars.
“Taylor probably won’t release it until later this year. Christmas is the wisest time to release it because that’s when everyone buys records.”
Page Six reached out to representatives for both singers, but did not receive a response at the time of publication.
This latest update on their friendship comes weeks after Sheeran revealed that he found out about the “Fate of Ophelia” singer’s engagement to Travis Kelsey through social media.
While speaking with Andy Cohen during a SiriusXM Small Stage Series concert, he was asked how he found out Kansas City Chiefs players took a knee.
In an interview in August, he only said “Instagram” and then admitted, “I didn’t even receive a DM in advance.”
In an October interview, Swift acknowledged her disdain and said, “I had a perfect explanation.”
She told Jimmy Fallon, “He doesn’t have a phone. And that’s one of the things I love about him. He’s so quirky. I love him. But when you’re wondering, ‘Hey, who should I call? Who should I FaceTime?'” As I read back through my text messages, I found myself thinking, ‘Who have I texted in the last few months of my life? ‘ It’s like that. ”
The “Wood” singer then said she wasn’t there because she could only “text” and had to find her iPad to set up a FaceTime call.
“This is one of my absolute favorite people on the planet,” Swift insisted, suggesting there was no bad blood between the two. “So when the news came out, I was like, ‘Oh my god, I forgot to call Ed! I lost it!'”
She continued, “He’s like family. I love him. But he doesn’t have a phone!”
The two have been friends since collaborating on the song “Everything Has Changed” from her album “Red” in 2012.
Swift has also recently distanced herself from longtime friend Blake Lively amid her legal battle with Justin Baldoni.
Page Six reported Thursday that Swift is “not in contact” with the “It Ends with Us” actress, despite low-key reunion rumors.
The two, who are frequently photographed together, have never spoken or met, but it is unclear when.
