The rumors have come more than a week since the news broke that Dobrev and Sean White had ended their engagement and five years of romance.
However, when asked by the TMZ reporter on October 1st if there was more than a friendship between her and Efron, Dobrev laughed and shut it down. The reporter then asked if they were “just a bunch of guys” who replied “yes.” The actress also told the outlet that she is focused on moving forward. “What do you know? I’m excited about the future, and the only thing that’s guaranteed is change,” she said.
The chatter surrounding Dobrev and Efron attended the wedding of crypto billionaire Brad Garlinghouse in southern France in September, where he was photographed on an Italian yacht with Chase Crawford, Miles Terror and Kelly Terror.
However, on September 22, US Weekly reported that Dobrev and Efron’s connection was platonic. “Nina and Zack weren’t dated and were good friends for over a decade,” the source told the outlet. “Their friends always joke that they should date, but that’s not what’s happening. They were there for each other throughout many stages of life and always had each other’s backs.”
The clarification is in a new chapter in Dobrev. Last month, people confirmed that she and White had quietly cancelled their engagement after the snowboarder proposed in October 2024. “Nina was devastated,” the source told us at the time. “They finally started planning their weddings, and things were moving.”
It is unknown what led to the disbandment. On September 16, people reported that Dobrev “wanted family and wanted to marry, but that wasn’t the case,” sources claimed. However, another insider told the outlet he “want both marriage and children.”
