Horrifying video has been released showing the moment one of the two helicopters involved in the crash that killed singer Oliver Tree crashed to the ground.
Surveillance footage released by Rio de Janeiro’s military fire department shows the plane spinning out of control and falling into the parking lot of a car dealership in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, before starting a massive fire that engulfed more than 20 cars.
According to NBC News, eyewitness Fernandez de Freitas claimed he saw a person jump from either helicopter before both crashed.
“It was scary, absolutely terrifying,” said the tire repair worker.
The cause of the collision has not yet been determined and authorities are investigating the crash.
Two helicopters flying over an electric car yard in Recreio dos Bandeirantes, southwest of Rio de Janeiro, collided early Sunday morning, killing six people.
At least 20 cars burst into flames after colliding at the scene of the crash, CNN reported.
One of the helicopters, a Bell 206B Jet Ranger III, was carrying Tree, 32, Argentine influencer Gaspar Prim, passengers Lucas Vignale and Lucas Brito Chavez, and pilot Alexandre Souza.
Pilot Charles Marsillac, 60, was the only person aboard the other helicopter, an Airbus H125.
In addition to the police, teams from the local fire department, CET (Traffic Engineering Company), Comrave, and 31st BPM (Recurio dos Bandeirantes) worked to isolate the area after the accident.
Tree was in South America for his “first world tour.” He just performed in São Paulo on June 6th and was scheduled to perform in Lisbon on July 13th.
The late singer, who was born in Santa Cruz, California, rose to fame in 2010 at the age of 17 and has performed with big names such as Skrillex and Zeds Dead under the nickname “Tree.”
He released his latest album, Love You Madly Hate You Badly, in April.
Tree’s ex-girlfriend, Melanie Martinez, paid tribute to Tree after she died in a helicopter crash, admitting she was a “truly awful person”.
“It’s really hard to understand how someone with whom I shared such a tangible and formative time in my life could suddenly be gone,” she wrote on Instagram.
Martinez also said Tree had a “contagious and warm” laugh and was always “dedicated” to his art, which he “greatly admired and respected.”
