First meeting
Kidman and Urban first crossed the pass in January 2005 at G’day La Gala Ball.
However, it took four months for the Grammy winner to call him the star of “practical magic.” She revealed in a 2017 interview with Today.com for The Ellen Degeneres Show.
Remembering that she believed Urban was “not interested,” Kidman said, “I fell in love with him so much.”
At the time, she shared that she and the “fighter” crooner hadn’t spoken about why he had been waiting so long for him to call.
While chatting at an Australian talk show in 2018, Urban admitted that he didn’t think Kidman would “see something in a guy like him.”
“But at one point, I picked up the courage to call those numbers, she replied, and we started talking, we spoke, we spoke, we spoke, we spoke, we spoke, we spoke, we spoke, we spoke, and it was fun,” he said in an “interview.”
Public debut
Kidman and Urban won the romance mass when they took part in the Grammy Awards in February 2006.
At the time, they were both away from walking the red carpet, but were seen beloved inside.
Quick engagement
By May 2006, the duo had been engaged.
“He’s actually my fiancé,” the Big Little Rice star told people at the Unifem 30th Anniversary Gala.
“I won’t bring my boyfriend.”
Wedding bells
A month after Kidman and Urban announced their engagement, they tied the knot in the Native Australia of the “Nine Perfect Strangers” star in June 2006.
They said, “I” in the chapel of St. Patrick’s property.
Notable participants included Hugh Jackman and Russell Crowe.
Rehabilitation check-in
In October 2006, Urban announced that he would seek treatment at Betty Ford Center, a California drug and alcohol rehabilitation center.
“I deeply regret the wounds that caused me to love and support Nicole and me,” he said in a statement, according to CBS News.
“I can never be wary of recovery. I’m worried that I have it,” continued the hitmaker. “Strength and unwavering support make me blessed with my wife, family and friends. I’m determined and decided to have a positive outcome.”
In September 2007, Kidman told Vanity Fair that she had now been outspoken about her husband’s rehabilitation and that she “learned the enormous amount (about) of having relationships with people in recovery.”
“I’m willing to walk it with him,” she said. “We are both very committed to our relationship.”
Urban told Oprah Winfrey on his previous daytime show in 2010 that Kidman’s support made him stronger as a couple.
“The way Nic handled that moment was perfect… I think everything was just designed to make us fuse together,” he said weekly.
Fraudulent rumors
During rehabilitation, model Amanda Wyatt claimed in a poignant interview with the Daily Mail that he “repeated” cheated with her all the way to their wedding.
“I feel sorry for Nicole,” she said. “He did it once, and he probably will do it again.”
The Urban official denied the allegations at the time, calling them fiction.
Baby No.1
Urban and Kidman revealed they were expecting their first child together in January 2008.
“The couple is excited,” her representative told people at the time.
They welcomed their eldest daughter, Sunday Rose that July.
Baby No. 2
In December 2010, Kidman and Urban shared that they secretly welcomed another daughter, Faith Margaret, through surrogacy.
“Our family is truly blessed and I am extremely grateful. I have been given the gift of Baby Faith Margaret,” a family representative told people.
“We can’t fully convey the incredible appreciation we feel to this whole process, especially to everyone who has been extremely supportive through the pregnancy carrier.”
Surviving loss
Kidman’s father, Dr. Antony Kidman, is a renowned clinical psychologist at the University of Technology in Sydney, Australia, and passed away in September 2014 after falling into a hotel room while visiting Kidman’s sister Antonia in Singapore.
Urban cancelled tour dates with Kidman and she spoke about his support.
A month later, Kidman gushed out about her husband’s support.
“He was amazing to me. I recently lost my father and my husband stepped up like that, it makes me cry. He’s amazing,” she appeared on The Ellen DeGeneres Show.
“I was so devastated to be carried by your partner, and sometimes physically, because I was literally in the process of being carried by your partner. It’s like I do anything for that guy,” she added.
I want more kids
In an interview with Vogue published in July 2015, Kidman said he hopes there will be more Urban kids.
“I wanted to see him sooner and have more kids,” she said. “But I didn’t. I mean, if I had two more kids with him, it would have been just glory.”
But the city opposed.
“But as Keith says, ‘Mind of desire, Nicole. Shut down,'” she said.
Viral Duet
Fans couldn’t get enough of Kidman and Urban singing his song “The Fighter” in their car, which they posted in May 2016.
Kidman sang Carrie Underwood’s part in the song, and has been viewed over 76 million times.
The key to their marriage
In an interview with W Magazine released in January 2025, Kidman revealed some important parts of his marriage.
“We have a double shower,” the Oscar winner said. “Double shower: The key to success in marriage.”
Kidman pointed out that having “separate comodels” in the bathroom was also helpful.
Prideful parents
Kidman and Urban made their runway debut at Miu Miu’s Spring/Summer Paris Fashion Week Show in October 2024, supporting their daughter’s Sunday Rose.
Although his parents weren’t filmed on the show, Kidman later attended a dinner party with his daughter, telling Vogue that he “shops” in France on Sunday.
Urban later said in an interview with Entertainment Tonight about Sunday’s modeling feat:
He also commented on Sunday Rose’s unique accent. This explains that “Australians meet Appalachians.”
“She’s our daughter,” he said.
Beverly Hills Robbers
In February 2025, the couple’s $4.7 million home in Beverly Hills, California was robbed.
The “babygirl” actress and country singer were not at home when the intrusion occurred, sources told the Post.
According to Business Insider, Kidman and Urban own a $3.4 million mansion in Nashville, two Australian homes and a $10 million New York City condo.
Painful subjects
Urban made the headline in July 2025 when he suddenly ended the interview after being asked about Kidman’s steamy movie scene.
When the Grammy Award winner called “Haley & Max in the Morning” in Mix 102.3, Haley Peterson and Max Burford asked about their co-starring with Zac Efron on Netflix’s “A Family Affair.”
“What do you think of Keith Urban when he saw a beautiful young man like Zac Efron and his beautiful wife on TV having these beautiful love scenes?” Burford asked.
However, Urban did not reply before the producer revealed that the songwriter and his team had been “disconnected from Zoom.”
The producer said, “I think his team hung up because his team didn’t want to ask us that question.”
Separation
Page 6 confirmed on September 29, 2025 that the city and Kidman were separated after 19 years of marriage.
“Sometimes, relationships just run the course,” the source told Page 6, adding that Kidman “didn’t want separation, he was trying to save things.”
The two were separated “from the beginning of the summer,” sources told TMZ.
Urban reportedly moved from his family home in Nashville, Tennessee, and bought another home in the same city.
The outlet also reported that Kidman was caring for two children: Sunday Rose and Faith Margaret, 14.
“(Kidman) has been holding his family together throughout this difficult time ever since Keith was gone,” sources said of his current tour.
