Emma Watson gave a rare new interview and talked about her decision to leave acting. The star said the focus is on balancing other parts of her life.
Emma Watson was spotted at the Cannes Film Festival earlier this year, venting rumours that the actress, who has taken a break from her performance and continues to educate, has returned to the spotlight.
In a rare new interview with Hollywood Assistal, Watson spoke openly about her future as an actor, along with her decision to leave Hollywood. Watson’s final project was Little Women in 2019.
“In some ways, I really won the lottery (along with the acting), and what happened to me is very unusual,” explained the 35-year-old, who broke out as a child actor in the Harry Potter film. “But the bigger factor than the actual work itself is the job, promotion and sales of this piece. That balance can be thrown away quite a bit. I’m honest and straight, and I never miss out on selling things.
“I realized I had to do most of the things I actually enjoyed. The moment I got on the set, it wasn’t that long for the rehearsal. But I can talk through the scene. I’m missing it. And it wasn’t even a real public audience or anything.”
When asked if she had ever worked behind the camera, she said, “I think I’m thinking everything.” However, she warned that the magnitude of the balance in life was more important, and that she needed time to focus on it.
“The most important thing is really the foundation of your life — your home, your friends and family,” she said. “I worked so hard for a long time, so my life went down to the bottom. The bottom actually fell from what was me and my life. So I had to do some construction work. I have a good foundation for growing anything else.
“I recently read this. Every day, our daily lives need to be content, perfection and meaning. I had to do it and rebuild. And I was so happy and proud of it, because leaving things is much more difficult than walking towards them. Scary.
Watson recently said, “Maybe I’m the happiest and healthiest I’ve ever had. I think the interesting thing about being an actor is that I tend to break myself into multiple personalities. I’m not only talking about the role you play, but because there’s that kind of need, I need constant bait and sprucing and charm. Sisters, daughters, friends, granddaughters, and people who are trying to think critically of themselves.”
