Toxic: A Fairy Tale for Adults opens in theaters around the world on August 26, placing Indian star and producer Yash’s upcoming action drama in an extended festive corridor that spans multiple religious observances.
The film’s release date is Wednesday, coinciding with Varamahalakshmi, Onam, Eid and Raksha Bandhan, creating an elongated theatrical window designed to maximize audience participation in domestic and international markets. The mid-week timing allows the production to take advantage of rising holiday consumption patterns across regions and language groups.
Along with the release announcement, a new poster has been released in which Yash is seen donning dual avatars as Raya and Ticket characters.
“At first glance, it might look like a gangster movie with a lot of commercial elements, but it’s a very nuanced work because it has so much moral ambiguity, raw emotion, dark side of humanity or certain topics. As an artist or at this point in my life, I want to explore such things on celluloid,” Yash told Variety about the project.
The production is one of the most ambitious undertakings in Indian film history. The film has been shot in both Kannada and English and will reach audiences in six Indian languages along with the English version, demonstrating its aspirations for pan-India and international reach. Director Geethu Mohandas and Yash will be collaborating for the first time in a film produced by KVN Productions and Yash’s Monster Mind Creations.
The ensemble cast includes Nayanthara, Kiara Advani, Huma Qureshi, Rukmini Vasant and Tara Sutaria. The film previously had a release date of June 4, before being rescheduled to allow it to complete its international distribution partnership following a CinemaCon presentation that garnered significant interest from distributors.
