Will Forte has revealed that he jokingly threatened to divorce his wife Olivia Modling following his unpleasant reaction to her getting bangs.
The “MacGruber” star recalled a time when he was away from his family filming Season 2 of “The Four Seasons” and randomly FaceTime Modding.
“She picked up FaceTime and she just cut her bangs,” he explained during an appearance on “Late Night with Seth Meyers” on Thursday.
“In all the time I’ve known her, she’s never had bangs. I didn’t know she had bangs. Nothing came out until I said, ‘What’s wrong?'”
Forte, 55, admitted that her reaction to the call “didn’t get off to a great start,” adding, “And I said, ‘Is that a wig?!'”
Modling then defended herself in front of the camera, saying she was “slouching a little” and that her bangs didn’t look like French actress Brigitte Bardot, but rather Spock from Star Trek.
“And it was around Halloween time, so maybe she was trying to dress up as Spock for Halloween, and maybe it was a wig?” he added.
However, Forte realized that his wife’s new hairstyle was not a wig and immediately tried to amend his initial statement.
“It’s like, ‘How can I turn this around and make them think it’s beautiful?'” the “Last Man on Earth” alum recalled thinking.
“And then I kind of realized in the middle of rehearsal that everyone was like, ‘What are you doing on your phone?'” And I said, “Oh! I gotta go!” So it was left as is. ”
Forte said he was unable to reach Modling for 30 minutes and received several text messages from her on his cell phone.
Myers then displayed a string of messages for Forte to read to the audience.
“She said, ‘Is that a wig? The worst thing you can think of. To ask. After cutting. Bangs,'” he wrote. “And I was like, ‘Hahaha, hahaha.’ And she said, ‘Divorce.’
Mr. Forte reassured the audience that he and Modling had “made it through.”
The two got engaged in 2019, shortly after they started dating.
They secretly married in 2021 in an intimate ceremony in New Mexico.
Forte and Modling have two daughters, Zoe, 5, and Cecilia, born in 2022.
