Kim Kardashian’s ex-husband Kris Humphries returned his basketball gear for fried chicken.
The former athlete, who was married to the reality star for 72 days in 2011, has lived out of the spotlight since retiring from the NBA in 2017 and now operates multiple Dave’s Hot Chicken franchises in Minnesota.
“Since stepping away from the game, he has been trying to keep a low profile and working on a new phase in his life,” he said, according to the US Sun.
“I have several business ventures,” he added.
Humphries, 41, will open his first franchise in his home state in 2023, a year after signing a deal to launch 10 franchises across Minnesota.
“I’m familiar with the area, I went to Hopkins High School, and I used to come to the mall after school,” the former basketball player told FOX 9 at the time.
“So I thought it would be a good idea to open my first location near the school I went to,” Humphries continued, explaining that the area needed a hot chicken spot.
As of last September, he had signed deals to open 30 stores in the Twin Cities, according to the Business Journal.
The “Keeping Up with the Kardashians” alum has since shifted his Instagram posts, which were once centered around his active lifestyle, to focus on his business endeavors.
Humphries also appears to be staying grounded and active with his fast food chain, making frequent appearances at multiple stores and participating in hot chicken challenges.
The businessman spent 13 seasons in the NBA after signing with the Utah Jazz in 2004, culminating in his last game with the Atlanta Hawks in 2017.
He also famously dated Kardashian, now 45, in 2010 before getting married in August 2011.
In an unexpected turn of events, the ex-lovers broke up 72 days after saying “I do,” and the Skims founder later admitted that he knew their breakup was over while on their honeymoon.
“At the time…I was like, ‘Oh my god, I’m 30 years old, it’s time to settle down and get married,'” she told Andy Cohen on Watch What Happens Live in May 2017.
In 2021, Kardashian acknowledged that she owed Humphries an apology for how she treated them during their breakup, but said Humphries did not return her calls.
The actress was also married to Damon Thomas from 2000 to 2004 and had four children with Kanye West from 2014 to 2022.
