Amazon Prime Video has officially greenlit “Things We Never Got Over” into a series.
The show is based on the book of the same name by Lucy Score and is the first of three books in Score’s so-called “Knock ‘Em Out” series. The TV anime adaptation was first reported to be in production at Amazon in September 2025. As previously reported, Eric Charmelo and Nicole Snyder will write the pilot and serve as showrunners and executive producers.
“‘Things We Never Got Over’ is everything we love about great television: a charming enemies-to-lovers romance, quirky comedy, and a community you’ll never want to leave,” said Charmelo and Snyder. “Lucy Score has built a very passionate fan base around these characters, and we’re excited to introduce the world of Knock ‘Em Out to Prime Video viewers around the world.”
The logline for “Things We Never Got Over” reads:
“Runaway bride Naomi Witt is summoned to a small Virginia town by her estranged twin sister Tina, who steals her car, cell phone, and wallet, leaving her stranded in a strange town with her teenage niece and a grumpy but very sexy local man who turns out to be a knight in tattooed armor.”
Gina Girolamo is executive producing along with Charmelo and Snyder through her production company, Strega Stories. The score will also serve as executive producer. Produced by Amazon MGM Studios.
“I feel very fortunate to have been able to interact with so many talented and generous storytellers throughout my career,” Score said. “We’re thrilled that Gina, Eric, Nicole, and the incredibly talented writers will bring Things We Never Got Over to life. Readers can rest assured that the characters we love so deeply on the page are in the best hands to bring them to life on screen.”
Girolamo is repped by McCune Frankel Whitehead. Score is represented by Bookcase Literary Agency and attorney Eric S. Brown. Charmelo and Snyder are repped by Austin Tyerman of UTA, Literate and Jackoway.
“Lucy Score has created a romantic, emotional, and deeply addictive world that readers will never want to leave,” said Peter Friedlander, Global Head of Television, Amazon MGM Studios. “‘Things We Never Got Over’ is packed with everything viewers love about great small-town romance: heart, humor, found family, undeniable chemistry and characters you’ll root for from the first page. We’re excited to work with Lucy, Nicole, Eric and Gina to bring Naomi’s story and the beloved world of Knockmort to Prime.”
Amazon has had great success in recent years adapting novel series to television. Among the series of hits in this field are “Reacher”, “The Summer I Turned Pretty”, “Bosch”, “Scarpetta”, “Off Campus”, “We Were Liars” and others.
