For Jacob Elordi, the final season of “Euphoria” was a seemingly never-ending chase of death. Of course, until his character Nate finally dies, being buried alive and bitten by a rattlesnake.
During an appearance on “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” with guest host (and fellow “Euphoria” star) Colman Domingo, Elordi was asked about filming the gruesome scene. When Domingo mentioned the death of a character he once hated, the studio audience let out a sad “ah”.
“Thank you,” Elordi said mockingly and annoyingly to the audience. “Finally, after eight years of all of you saying, ‘Fuck Nate, kill him, Nate is shit,’ yeah, I read your tweets. Now you’re sad. Hmm.”
In season 3 of Euphoria, Nate, once a hostile high school bully, finds himself pursued by an unscrupulous businessman and his henchmen after a real estate investment fails. In each episode, Nate was brutally beaten by the villains.
“I think Sam brought me back to torture me,” Elordi said of series creator Sam Levinson. “For six weeks, all I did was get hit by a 7-foot guy. All I did was run the whole time.”
Director Elordi said of filming his final death: “They were locked in a coffin for two days straight with a prosthetic leg and a fake tongue, and they couldn’t see. Then Sam put a snake in the coffin.”
Elordi’s coffin was joined by a boa constrictor, which transformed into a terrifying rattlesnake in the show.
“He had a great personality,” Elordi said of the reptile. “He was a very quiet, very sleepy kid. I don’t think he was getting a lot of sun… So I poked him a little bit and tried to get him active and act out this scene because he was trying to be intimidating, but he was like a little dog. He just kept curling up at my feet.”
Regarding the impact Euphoria had on his career, Elordi said, “It really changed my whole life. It’s unbelievable. … I don’t know if I’ll ever understand how big that show was and what it did for me.” Speaking directly to Domingo, who recently starred in Disclosure Day, he added, “I mean, we’re in a movie right now! It’s like, you’re starring in a Spielberg movie and I’m working with Ridley Scott. It’s crazy.”
Elordi’s next film, The Dog Stars, directed by Scott, will be released on August 28th.
