Ryan Gosling’s wish has finally come true.
Gosling has said in several interviews over the years that he didn’t like the placement of his hands on the original theatrical poster for La La Land, but to commemorate the film’s 10th anniversary, Lionsgate unveiled a new design that shows Gosling’s flattened hand sticking out.
Back in 2024, Gosling spoke to Wall Street Journal Magazine about “a moment” from the Oscar-winning film that still haunts him years later. “Emma and I were dancing and we didn’t know this was going to be a movie poster. We were supposed to put our hands up, but we thought it would be cooler to put our hands (flatter) even though everyone said it wasn’t cool. We were convinced it would be cooler that way.”
“When I look at it now, which I always have to look at, I see what was even cooler…(the intended pose),” Gosling added. “That kind of took away my energy. I call it ‘la la hands.'”
To coincide with its 10th anniversary, La La Land will be re-released in theaters starting Sunday, August 16th and will be shown in Dolby Cinema at AMC Theaters. The film won six Oscars, including Best Director and Best Cinematography, and a record seven Golden Globes. It grossed $447 million worldwide on a $30 million budget. The Broadway musical is currently in production (dates have not yet been announced).
Gosling won a Golden Globe for his role as Seb, an aspiring pianist who falls in love with restless actress Mia (Stone). Stone won the Oscar for Best Actress.
