Tom Cruise details how he underwent a wild transformation for his new movie ‘Digger’.
“My process is absorbing, absorbing, absorbing,” the actor said at a recent press event at Warner Bros. in Burbank, Calif., according to Entertainment Weekly. “We tell stories with our bodies…We want people to be immersed in the story.”
“You have to really understand the tools. They’re not one-size-fits-all,” he continued. “You have to find the communication, the lenses, the makeup colors.”
The trailer, released Monday, features an unrecognizable Cruz with a gray comb bar, pot belly and strong Southern accent. He plays the role of oil tycoon Digger Rockwell, the “most powerful man in the world” who is tasked with saving the world from an ecological disaster.
Mr Cruise, 64, said Digger’s dentures had helped him fit into the quirky character perfectly.
“Once you set your teeth on it, you’re like, ‘Here we go,'” he said, imitating Digger’s distinctive accent.
He also compared his new role to previous iconic movie characters, such as Les Grossman in the 2008 film Tropic Thunder. Cruise famously wore a thick suit and a prosthetic leg in the film.
“When we’re looking for characters, we’re looking for humor, drama, certain building blocks. How do we convey this?” Cruise explained.
“Whether it’s ‘Les Grossman,’ ‘Interview with the Vampire,’ ‘Collateral,’ or ‘Risky Business,’ I’m always asking myself, ‘How do I communicate this?’ Physicality, make-up, that’s what you find when you’re learning how to communicate.”
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the actor admitted at a press event, “I’ve never had anything that challenged me, and neither did[director Alejandro González Iñárritu]when I came on set.” “When you watch this movie, you know it’s completely original.”
When Cruise posted a poster for the movie on his social media page on Monday, fans couldn’t believe it was the legendary actor in the photo.
In the comments section, one person claimed, “It can’t be Tom Cruise,” while another added, “It can’t be that.”
