Toho has announced the production of the third season of Dorohedoro.
The second season of the anime ended in April.
“Dorohedoro” is based on the manga of the same name by Kyu Hayashida, which debuted in 2000 and was serialized in 23 volumes over 18 years. The property has built a devoted international following through its unique worldview, dark humor, and chaotic storytelling. When the anime adaptation was first announced in 2020, it exceeded expectations for a movie and received high praise.
The anime follows Kaiman, an amnesiac man whose head was turned into a lizard’s head by a sorcerer, and his partner Nikaido as they search for the person responsible for the curse. A release schedule for season 3 has not been announced.
Animation studio MAPPA, which is also known for “Jujutsu Kaisen” and “Zombie Land Saga” and worked on the previous two seasons, will once again be in charge of production. Yuichiro Hayashi, who directed both the early seasons and Attack on Titan: The Final Season, returns as director. To commemorate this announcement, Hayashi released a commemorative illustration of the character “Haru” in the song.
This renewal caps off a remarkable year for the franchise. Seasons 1 and 2 were released simultaneously across multiple North American platforms in April, bringing new viewers into Hall’s world. All episodes of both seasons are currently streaming on Crunchyroll, Netflix, Hulu/Disney+, Rakuten, and Viki.
Toho, the Japanese entertainment and distribution company behind the “Godzilla” series and “My Hero Academia,” has expanded its international anime footprint in recent years through its Toho Animation label.
