TLC UK orders new season of Top Trump panel show ‘Mock the Week’

Britain’s TLC has ordered a Top Trump-themed panel show hosted by comedian Katherine Ryan.

Based on the card game and tentatively titled “Top Trumps: Comedy Pack,” Ryan will be in charge as team captains Joel Dommett and John Richardson battle it out in classic card showdowns, live studio challenges, and bluffing games. It will be produced by TalkbackThames and Naked and will be released early next year.

“Everyone knows Top Trump, but no one has played it so perfectly,” Ryan said. “We’re making this iconic game bigger, louder and more entertaining. And with John and Joel captaining rival teams, chaos is almost guaranteed.”

The news was announced as part of a comedy extravaganza on the new free-to-air channel owned by Warner Bros. Discovery UK & Ireland.

That includes “Mock the Week,” which will air the series for three seasons until Season 5 in 2027. The long-running panel show aired on the BBC for 20 years before going on hiatus in 2022, but returned to the station earlier this year and has already aired season one and a summer special (season two is due to air on September 13). Organized by Dara O Brian and produced by Angst Productions.

The network has focused on investing in comedy since its relaunch earlier this year. TLC debuted another new format, “Unacceptable,” hosted by Ed Gamble, similar to “Mock the Week.” The show started last month and has already been renewed for a second season.

“Six months after TLC’s successful launch as a free-to-air wide-ranging entertainment channel, we are thrilled to be bringing a new original format to our schedule with ‘Top Tramps: Comedy Pack’ (w/t),” said Graham Rafferty, WBD’s senior vice president of content strategy and networks for the UK and Ireland.

“We’re excited to have the wonderfully funny Kathryn Ryan, who is new to TLC after appearing on ‘Mock the Week’ and ‘Unacceptable,’ taking the helm. We’re also thrilled to have the exceptional comedic pairing of Joel Dommett and John Richardson at the helm. Our take on Top Tramps sits perfectly within TLC’s growing British comedy line-up alongside ‘Mock the Week’ and we’re delighted to have secured it for a further three series with Dara O’Brien.” A satirical guide to the news agenda of 2027, this is the second series of Unacceptable, hosted by the hilarious Ed Gamble. ”

WBD is also investing in automotive content, including “The Race Mechanic,” “Richard Hammond’s Workshop” and “Wheeler Dealers World Tour,” with titles set to land on TLC’s sister network Quest.
