Han Chae-young, the actor behind some of Korean drama’s most famous titles, scored a hit with “Raising His Mistress’s Child,” the Korean remake of the global micro-drama that grossed more than $15 million.
The series premiered on July 10th on mobile-first platform FlareFlow and has already garnered over 10 million views.
The original production, “Raising His Mistress’s Child,” drew approximately 4.8 million viewers and recorded more than 513,700 viewers. This number prompted COL Group’s international platform to commission a localized version for Korean audiences.
The remake follows a woman who survives a difficult childbirth when her newborn is taken away and the baby in her arms turns out to be that of her husband’s mistress. She tries to get her child back and hold those responsible accountable.
Early engagement metrics are noteworthy. The Korean version recorded an audience rating of 84.4% for the first episode and 67.6% for the second episode.
Han Chae-young is best known for her roles in Boys Over Flowers and Autumn in My Heart. Her casting follows a broader shift across the region, with established film and TV talent transitioning to mobile-first productions as microdrama formats attract larger audiences and more production investment.
Timothy, General Manager of COL Group International and Chief Marketing Officer of FlareFlow Oh said, “Microdramas have evolved far beyond short-form entertainment. Today, viewers expect premium storytelling, cinematic production quality, and performances from actors they know and love. “The decision to headline the show reflects how far the industry has come. Mainstream TV stars are increasingly recognizing microdramas as a premium storytelling format that can reach millions of deeply engaged people.” This marks the beginning of a new era, where the biggest stories, greatest talent and most engaging entertainment experiences are increasingly being created on vertical screens. ”
FlareFlow has released approximately 5,200 series on its platform, operates in 14 languages, and counts 33 million registered users in over 200 countries and territories. The Korean remake of “Raising His Mistress’s Child” is part of a broader localization drive by the platform, combining proven global intellectual property with recognized local talent.
