Patrick Godfrey, the British actor who played Leonardo da Vinci in the 1998 fantasy film “Ever After: A Cinderella Story,” died on Thursday. He was 93 years old.
Godfrey’s death was announced on June 5th through a statement from his talent agency Markham Froggatt & Irwin. A statement said: “It is with great sadness that we can confirm that Patrick Godfrey passed away last night. He passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family. Paddy was an extraordinarily talented actor and a wonderful person. We will miss him tremendously.”
Godfrey played an Italian polymath in Ever After, co-starring Drew Barrymore, who played Cinderella’s stand-in Daniel. Other cast members include Anjelica Huston, Dougray Scott, Megan Dodds, Melanie Lynskey, Timothy West, and Judy Parfitt.
Godfrey’s other notable film works include “A Room with a View,” “A Clockwise”, “Maurice,” “The Count of Monte Cristo,” “Oliver Twist,” “Les Misérables,” and “Mowgli: Legend of the Jungle.” On the television side, Godfrey appeared in numerous productions including “Compact”, “Dixon of Dock Green”, “Doctor Who”, “Z Cars”, “The Life and Adventures of Nicholas Nickleby”, “Scenic Blot”, “The Screenplay”, “Dandelion Dead” and many others.
Godfrey was born in February 1933 in Finsbury Park, England. In 1956, he entered the world of entertainment by joining the BBC’s Radio Drama Company. In 1972, she made her film debut as a house servant in the Royal Shakespeare Company’s television production of Miss Julie, starring John Glenister and Robin Phillips. His next film appearance was in 1981, when he played Kuligin in Trevor Nunn’s Three Sisters.
