Stephanie Pratt is completely changing her position on whether her brother Spencer Pratt is fit to play the role of mayor of Los Angeles.
“I admit that I was the first person to tell people that anyone who voted for my brother was an idiot,” she told Vanity Fair in an emailed statement released Wednesday.
“Wow, was I wrong?” she added, noting that the “Hills” alum is investigating corruption allegations surrounding the devastating Palisades fire that destroyed her home last year.
“He has spent every day since the fire uncovering facts, mistakes and mistakes, and uncovering truths he never wanted us to know.”
A representative for Spencer did not immediately respond to Page Six’s request for comment Wednesday.
Stefani, 40, previously criticized her brother’s aggressive attempts to steal the high-profile office in the upcoming June 2 election.
“Mr. Spencer has done a great job on the fence, but Los Angeles no longer needs a less qualified and less experienced mayor,” Stefani wrote about the 42-year-old mayoral candidate in February.
“He’s just trying to stay famous and sell his memoir. Don’t be fooled,” she continued in a now-deleted tweet, adding, “In an ideal world, there would be a mayor and a police officer on each fence.”
“At the very least, hire someone with a work history who is not part of a cult,” she concluded, referring to past allegations that he was involved in a cult. “I’m worried about Los Angeles. I’m fine with Spencer serving as government, but our city needs help.”
The reality icon, who has two children with wife Heidi Montag, announced her candidacy on January 7, the one-year anniversary of the deadly wildfires that ripped through Pacific Palisades and Altadena, killing 12 people.
“The system in Los Angeles is not suffering, it is fundamentally broken,” he said at a public demonstration.
“This is a machine designed to protect the people at the top and their favored friends, while the rest of us drown in toxic smoke and ash. That’s why I’m running for mayor.”
Celebrities such as Katharine McPhee and David Foster have publicly supported Mr. Spencer through fundraisers and public comments, while other celebrities such as Drew Carey and Lisa Rinna have also vocally opposed Mr. Spencer’s candidacy for mayor.
“Anyone voting for or supporting Spencer Pratt in the Los Angeles mayoral race should think twice,” the “Price is Right” host wrote in part via a thread earlier this month.
“It’s understandable to be angry and frustrated, but at least support someone who is competent and not a serial cheater with no soul or moral compass.”
