Shia LaBeouf pleaded guilty to simple assault after being arrested at Mardi Gras in New Orleans in February.
A representative for the Orléans Parish Criminal District Court told Page Six that the troubled actor, 39, pleaded guilty in court Wednesday to simple assault in connection with an altercation at a Marigny bar earlier this year.
He was given a six-month suspended sentence and a two-year suspended sentence. Anger management and sensitivity training must also be completed as part of the conditions. The case has been resolved.
LaBeouf’s attorney in the case, Sarah Cherbinski, told Page Six in a statement: “The police and district attorney’s investigation proves exactly what Shia LaBeouf has said all along: This was just a minor brawl at a Mardi Gras bar.”
“There is no evidence of bias or bias, which is why the state only charged these low-level misdemeanors,” the statement continued. “Mr. LaBeouf appeared in court today to demand accountability for what happened, which he has done. He now looks forward to focusing on his family, work, and new creative projects.”
The Orleans Parish District Attorney’s Office formally indicted LaBeouf last month.
LaBeouf was arrested in the early hours of February 17th after partying for several days in a row to celebrate Mardi Gras.
The “Transformers” star, who has struggled with alcoholism and anger issues in the past, was asked to leave a French Quarter bar for getting too rowdy.
Various staff and patrons described him as “intoxicated” and “somewhat belligerent.” As soon as LaBeouf stepped outside, he allegedly began punching the employee who accompanied him.
The “Honey Boy” star eventually left, but returned with an alleged vendetta that required multiple people to stop him.
As people relaxed, police said LaBeouf allegedly chased down the employee he had earlier hit, punched him in the chest and then punched another in the nose.
He was taken into custody again until police arrived at the scene near 1 a.m.
TMZ obtained footage of the shirtless actor being punched by multiple men as he sat on the street, but it is unclear when during the night the altercation took place.
Another video showed LaBeouf being loaded into an ambulance and taken to a hospital for treatment of unexplained injuries. After his release, he was arrested at approximately 4:15 a.m. and booked into the Orleans Parish Jail.
The actor was said to have been bar hopping for several days over the weekend, with various staff and patrons describing him as “intoxicated” and “somewhat belligerent.”
LaBeouf is even said to have used the phrase “Do you know who I am?” The line before “I want to become a famous bartender.”
As one witness put it, he was “terrorizing the city.”
