New anonymous information leaves searchers scrambling for answers in Nancy Guthrie’s disappearance.
Ramona Guadalupe Ayala Ortiz, head of Bascando Corazones Nogales, a group that searches for missing persons in Mexico, said she received information on Wednesday that the grave of Savannah Guthrie’s mother may have been discovered, sparking a massive search south of the border.
However, this claim has not been confirmed, and authorities have not revealed whether there is actual evidence that Nancy, 84, was taken to Mexico or whether the reported grave is connected to her disappearance.
Ayala Ortiz told El Imparcial that the information was reportedly investigated by a Mexican volunteer search team that was scouring remote areas as part of an ongoing effort to find the missing woman in Arizona.
Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos responded to the claims in a statement posted on social media Thursday, saying he was “aware of reports regarding an anonymous tip related to the Nancy Guthrie investigation provided to a Mexican group.”
“At this time, we have not received any communication from Mexican authorities,” he continued. “This investigation remains active and ongoing and we will continue to follow up on any credible information we receive.”
Today co-anchor Savannah Guthrie’s mother, Nancy, disappeared from her Tucson-area home in February. Authorities said they believe she was kidnapped because signs of a struggle were found at the residence.
At the time, the Los Angeles Times reported that authorities found blood stains inside Nancy’s home, but it was unclear to whom it belonged.
Law enforcement officials also acknowledged there were signs of forced entry, further raising concerns that she was the victim of foul play.
In his first press conference, Sheriff Nanoz confirmed that they were thoroughly searching the area. However, police involved homicide detectives after discovering a scene that was “a cause for concern for us”.
Savannah has continued to support him, but not without tears. As Page Six previously revealed, she got emotional during a commercial break, but was able to quickly calm down before the cameras started rolling again.
“We will never stop looking for you,” Guthrie wrote in an Instagram post on Mother’s Day. “We will never be at peace until we find you.”
One source previously told us, “Of course Savannah is not going ‘back to normal,'” and no one is “expecting” it to be for a while.
“The grace and strength she shows every day as she puts one foot in front of the other, despite the pain, is truly an inspiration,” the source added. “It’s very difficult to grasp that there are no new strong leads and no significant evidence other than doorbell camera footage. How is that possible?”
