Sandra Bullock paid a heartfelt tribute to her late father on Father’s Day on Sunday, including a rare photo of him and his two children.
The actress’ father, John Wilson Bullock, died in 2018 at the age of 93. Sandra first posted a throwback photo of them posing arm in arm at the premiere of the film Forces of Nature in March 1999, and later posted a photo of her holding her son Louis and daughter Layla when they were young. Louis, who is fiercely private when it comes to his children, covered Layla’s face with a brown heart emoji while his hand covered his mouth.
Lastly, she shared a black and white photo of her father from his time in the military. John was an employee of the United States Army and a civilian contractor for the Department of Defense.
Sandra teased her dark hair color and makeup in a 1999 photo, writing, “He loved me through my goth years…loved the love of my life…and loved our country when he was 18…”
“Happy Heavenly Father’s Day, Dad. ❤️,” she added.
Sandra, 61, adopted Louis, now 16, in 2010, and Layla, now 11, in 2015.
The “Practical Magic” star spoke about losing his father in the past. Back in December 2018, she reflected on her father and two dogs who died within weeks of each other. Her father died of natural causes, one of the dogs had a stroke, and the other had a heart tumor.
“I realized that life happens whether you schedule it or not,” she said during an appearance on “The Ellen DeGeneres Show.”
She said she thought she would be “okay,” but eventually her emotions caught up with her, and her children definitely noticed.
“Then a week later, I’m crying in the bathtub and my kids are like, ‘Mommy, are you okay?'” They’re like, ‘Leave mommy alone in the bathtub.’ She’s going to be okay,” she recalled.
Sandra also shared a rare glimpse of her children at a young age in an Instagram post for Mother’s Day last month. She posted an adorable photo of herself cuddling with costumed children. Laila wore a colorful tulle dress, and Louis wore a magician’s costume.
In a heartwarming merry-go-round, Sandra shared a personal snapshot of her late grandmother and late mother Helga Meyer. Mr. Meyer passed away in April 2000 after a battle with cancer. The opera singer and voice teacher was 58 years old.
“Happy Mother’s Day to all moms, no matter how you were born. We are all bound by this once-in-a-lifetime honor,” she wrote.
“Thank you mom and Omi for letting me know,” she added. “I miss you so much❤️ I’m sorry I was such a brat.”
