Ryan Lochte is making mean comments about his Olympic champion appearance.
The award-winning swimmer hit back at critics who called her “unrecognizable” in an Instagram video over the weekend in which she announced that she will be taking a new position as assistant swimming and diving coach at Missouri State University. Some did not like his tan and unkempt beard, and others criticized his appearance.
Lochte, 41, responded to a video posted by his girlfriend Molly Gillihan on Thursday with applause. He seemed embarrassed by people commenting on his appearance, but then pointed out that he looked older.
“Oh, you’re taking pictures of me working out every day and getting my makeup done for photo shoots around the time of the 2012 Olympics. Now it’s 2026,” he pointed out.
“What’s 14 years? Do you think I’m old?” he added sarcastically.
Gillihan explained in the video about the black spots on her forehead, saying that she had dyed her eyebrows, and that Lochte had dye applied to the top of her head, which turned them black.
Still, Lochte wasn’t amused by the comments about his drastically changed appearance.
“When I say I don’t recognize them, I mean I don’t understand them,” he said, adding, “They’re all clowns, come on.”
Gillihan also jokingly captioned the video, “👀 Who is this guy pretending to be my boyfriend @ryanlochte?!? 🤣🤣🤣 #unrecognizable.”
Lochte’s original post announcing his new job drew comments such as “Literally doesn’t look like him” and “What happened?”
But others came out in support of him in the comments section, with one fan writing: “Say what you want, but this guy is a legend.”
Lochte’s assistant coaching job will begin later this summer after his contract was formally approved by the university’s Board of Governors in June, the New York Post reported.
His contract, obtained by Front Office Sports, says the job pays $34 an hour and has an estimated income of $30,000. He is eligible for bonuses including $750 for winning the Missouri Valley Conference men’s or women’s championship or co-championship.
Lochte has three children with his estranged wife Kayla Reed: Kayden, 8, Liv, 7, and Georgia, 2.
Lochte and Gillihan, who also have three children, went public with their relationship in July last year. Lochte moved in with his girlfriend and their children in January.
