Roku continues its commitment to the gaming experience with the release of Roku City Dash, a retro-inspired game that users can play from within the platform’s screensaver.
The smart TV company, which has more than 100 million streaming households worldwide as of last week, describes the new feature as “an original game that transports you inside the beloved Roku City, where you can experience iconic buildings and unexpected surprises from outer space.” Users playing “Roku City Dash” can compete for high scores within their households.
Starting Monday, “Roku City Dash” will be accessible to users through the Roku City screensaver’s interactive buildings and the Roku home screen.
“Roku City Dash” is the latest addition to a growing list of interactive experiences Roku has debuted to draw viewers to the platform beyond their streaming habits, including Roku Daily Trivia, a new quarterly “Roklue” quiz game, and “Live from Roku City,” where the screensaver switches to a dynamic themed page to promote events like Demi Lovato’s headline performance and “Wicked: For Good.”
“Our users have a deep passion for all things Roku City, and starting today, we’re delivering features they’ve been asking for for years,” said Lisa Holm, head of content at Roku Media. “Roku City Dash lets users fly around Roku City, passing familiar and iconic monuments and special Easter eggs while dodging obstacles and competing for high scores. The game is a fun way to celebrate the city we love, build on the interactivity of our platform, and invite users to spend time with Roku in new ways.”
