The troubled woman who was arrested Sunday afternoon for allegedly shooting Rihanna at her $14 million Los Angeles home had previously been in jail for allegedly attacking her ex-husband in front of their children.
Ivanna Ortiz, 35, was arrested in June 2023 and charged with assault (domestic violence) after an incident with her ex-husband (Page Six refers to him as John Doe) outside their apartment in Orlando, Florida.
According to an Orlando Police Department incident report that we obtained exclusively on Monday, Doe told responding officers that he and his ex-wife had agreed to drop their daughter off at their apartment via text message. Ortiz allegedly told Dou not to be late, and an argument ensued via text message.
A police officer who searched Doe’s cellphone said Ortiz texted his ex-girlfriend saying, “I’m going to have a stuffy nose tonight.” A few minutes later she wrote: “To be a twin, tonight you’re in charge and I’m going to roll with the punches.”
The officer noted that at no point during the conversation did Doe threaten to harm Ortiz. In return, he said, he wants his daughter to be raised in peace.
When Doe arrived at Ortiz’s apartment, she began filming him with her cell phone. When Ortiz opened the door, she allegedly called him a “f—t,” which led to an argument.
Doe said she then instructed her daughters to leave with her. When he turned and began to walk away, Ortiz allegedly lunged at him and tried to grab his cellphone. He claims she missed and lunges at him again, prompting him to push her away.
Ortiz fell to the ground, but got back up and began punching Doe, who then allegedly pushed her away and tried to pin her down again. He said he repeatedly told her to stop.
A neighbor heard the commotion and came out, and the ex-lovers broke up. Doe then called 911. Responding officers found scratches on the right side of his face.
The officer also tried to talk to the daughter, but she was very upset. Officers noted that she was crying to the point of hyperventilating and said multiple times that she didn’t want anyone to get in trouble or go to jail.
Meanwhile, Ortiz told officers that Doe continued to provoke her when he showed up at her apartment, so she grabbed his cellphone. She claimed that he then hit her with it, pushed her to the ground, pulled her hair and put his hand on her neck.
Ortiz acknowledged that Doe used his hands to subdue her, rather than strangling her, adding that she began punching him to protect herself.
“I believe that Ivanna Otolis is the main perpetrator of the above incident,” the officer wrote in the police report, noting that her daughter was left in Doe’s custody.
Ortiz was arrested three months later on suspicion of violating pretrial release conditions related to a domestic assault case.
She was also arrested in September 2021 for careless driving.
Ortiz’s latest legal investigation alleges that she used an AR-15-style rifle to fire about 10 shots into Rihanna’s mansion, which she shares with her partner A$AP Rocky and their three young children. There were no injuries.
Ortiz allegedly fired shots from a car across the street from the home before fleeing the scene.
Shortly after, she was arrested by the Los Angeles Police Department on suspicion of attempted murder.
In the weeks leading up to the shooting, Ortiz had posted several concerning messages about Rihanna and other celebrities on social media.
One of the posts, posted to X two weeks before the incident, read, “@badgirlriri are you there? ‘Cause I was waiting for you five-headed AIDS guy to say something to me in person. Instead of sneakily talking to me like you, I was waiting for you to talk to me when I’m not there.”
A source told People that Rihanna “doesn’t understand” why her family was targeted by Ortiz, but is doing her best to be cautious in the wake of the incident.
