Ricky Martin was forced to interrupt a concert in Montenegro on Thursday after someone in the audience “fired tear gas at the stage.”
Following the horrific incident, Martin’s agent, Rondine Alcala, released a lengthy statement via Instagram confirming that Martin is “safe.”
“Tonight during Ricky Martin’s concert in Montenegro, where he was beginning the European leg of his ‘Ricky Martin Live’ tour, an individual fired tear gas at the stage, abruptly halting the show,” the statement read.
The spokesperson added: “The audience was evacuated and assisted. As a precautionary measure, Ricky Martin and his entire team immediately exited the stage.”
Meanwhile, “security personnel and local authorities worked hard to contain the situation and ensure the safety of attendees.”
The Grammy winner, 54, was “advised not to proceed with the performance,” but once authorities confirmed the situation was under control, Martin returned to the stage “to fulfill his promise to his fans.”
“The artist will continue his ‘Ricky Martin Live’ tour with scheduled dates across Europe and additional international dates,” the statement concludes.
Many concertgoers shared their horrifying experiences in the comments section.
“My heart was racing in fear for everyone. Ricky had the courage to go on with the show, but I know he only did so knowing his team and fans were all safe and sound,” one person wrote.
Another Instagram user commented: “We were there. Thank you Ricky and his team for everything. They are all professional 👏👏👏 Enjoyed the concert ❤️.”
The Latin superstar has yet to address the incident himself.
His tour is scheduled to end in August.
