Prince William and Duchess Kate currently have no plans to attend the 2026 FIFA World Cup in New York City, a royal source said.
“There’s been a lot of talk about this over the past few months, but so far no invitations have been issued, so I don’t think that’s going to happen at this point,” royal correspondent Emily Nash exclusively told Page Six this week.
halo! Magazine reporter — He was advertising his appearance on the live recording of Hello! Magazine’s “A Right Royal Podcast” next Tuesday noted that travel has become difficult for Middleton following her battle with cancer.
“As William himself said, these trips are very draining,” Nash said. “I think he said, ‘You’re transmitting and receiving all the time,’ which I thought was a really interesting way of saying it. You’re in a situation where you have to give 110 percent the entire time you’re on set, and you’re being scrutinized at every turn.”
Last month, Nash joined the Princess of Wales on her tour of Italy, her first trip since announcing she was in remission.
“It was so great to see her back on the world stage and I know she definitely wants to be back on the world stage,” Nash said. “But whether that happens in the next few weeks…at this point, I don’t think it will happen. But we can’t rule anything out.”
If Mr Middleton, 44, does indeed make it to the United States, Mr Nash said it would be a “big moment”.
“We’ve seen the reception they’ve received in America in the past, and it’s fair to say it’s always been incredibly warm,” she said. “I think people will be happy to see her, especially after everything she’s been through.”
Nash believes the Prince of Wales, 43, is more likely to feature if England reach the final in New Jersey next month.
“I would be very surprised if England were to get to the final and Prince William wasn’t in attendance,” she said, noting that the prince is the head of the Football Association.
“He was always very supportive of the England team,” Nash added. “We know he has close personal friendships with a lot of (the players) and he wants to be there 100 percent.”
Nash has heard rumors that a trip is planned for a June appearance, but he doesn’t believe it will work out.
“But you never say never, right?” she said.
Nash said several factors come into play as to whether children will be able to join them overseas.
Asked if Prince George, 12, Princess Charlotte, 11, and Prince Louis, 8, would be able to attend the match, she said: “I don’t know about that.”
“I think there’s definitely going to be a lot of travel for Prince William and Duchess Kate later this year,” she said. “So I think it might be a question of keeping up with their pace, but they’ve certainly taken their kids to soccer in the past.”
Mr Nash also said the royal family’s travel plans had been “approved” by the Royal Visitation Commission.
“There’s a big government component to this, so the government doesn’t really choose when to do things,” Nash explained. “The[British]government may think that a visit to the United States is not very urgent at this time.”
Charles III and Queen Camilla just visited New York in April, marking their first visit to the Big Apple in 19 years.
Prince William and Duchess Kate last traveled to the United States in 2022 for the second Earthshot Awards ceremony in Boston, and have not visited New York City since 2014.
The two have never participated in a FIFA World Cup together. However, Prince William attended the 2006 tournament in Germany with his brother Prince Harry and watched the quarter-final match between England and Portugal.
A representative for Kensington Palace did not immediately respond to Page Six’s request for comment.
