Ritual, a new independent zine celebrating movie theater culture, is now available in select Los Angeles theaters.
The print publication, launched by Greg Longstreet of L.A.-based public relations firm Empirical, is “created as both a celebration of film and a short break from the never-ending scroll, Ritual is dedicated to passionate, evergreen film writing,” according to a press release. The zine, which exists alongside media and online film culture, offers readers a physical editorial experience with a beginning, middle, and end. QR codes featured throughout the publication give readers access to playlists and expanded content about the stories inside. ”
The issue is currently available in select theaters and retail spaces, and can also be ordered through the publication’s Instagram handle.

The first issue features contributions from film journalist and comedian Patton Oswalt, IFC executive Daniel Freiberg, director Casey Storm, and Longstreet himself, as well as a playlist by Edgar Wright.
“Ritual was born out of the idea that film culture should feel tactile, communal, and personal,” Longstreet said in a statement. “I wanted to create something artistic that allows people to devote their whole lives to entertainment, a physical piece of media that movie lovers can throw in their back pocket and read while waiting for the movie to start.
“There will definitely be more ceremonies,” he added. “The shape and frequency of a zine evolves with the audience that connects with it.”
After beginning his Hollywood career as an actor and screenwriter, Longstreet has spent the past 20 years working in publicity. Among the filmmakers he has collaborated with and scheduled for release this year are Macon Blair (The Idiots), Dennis Di Novi (Practical Magic 2) and Brian Duffield (Whalefall).
