Founded in 2004 by Caroline Hirsch, the New York Comedy Festival has featured some of the biggest names in stand-up over the years and has taken over iconic New York City venues including the Beacon Theatre, Carnegie Hall, the King’s Theater and countless clubs. In addition to stand-up, the festival also features live podcast recordings, sketch and improv showcases, and conversations.
Additionally, for the first time, the New York Comedy Festival will welcome Variety magazine’s prestigious 10 Comics to Watch program as part of its lineup, bringing one of the comedy industry’s most respected showcases of emerging talent to New York audiences. The presentation and live showcase will be held on November 12th during the festival, and this year’s winners will also be featured in the November 4th issue of Variety magazine ahead of the event. Since launching the series in 2000, Variety has profiled many of comedy’s biggest future stars, including Wanda Sykes, Nate Bergatze, Patton Oswalt, Fred Armisen, Zach Galifianakis, and recent breakout talent like Ayo Edebiri, Hannah Einbinder, Caleb Hearon, and Julio Torres.
“Each year, the New York Comedy Festival celebrates the biggest voices in comedy while also serving as a showcase for the talent shaping the future of comedy,” Hirsch said in a statement. “This year’s lineup brings together established stars, fan favorites, and a new generation of comedians to watch. We’re incredibly proud to make New York City the epicenter of comedy and continue to be the place where artists, industry leaders, and fans come together to experience the best this art form has to offer.”
