A swanky Aegean resort that hosted famous fans including Gigi Hadid, Lindsay Lohan, Naomi Campbell and Leonardo DiCaprio has been forced to close just as American tourists were due to visit for their summer holidays.
Scorpios Bodrum is owned but no longer operated by Soho House, a private members’ club with 50 locations around the world, which was forced to temporarily close due to a falling out with a local business partner.
The club, which opened two years ago, claimed in a statement that Max Royal “has sought to change the terms of our commercial agreement. We have rejected the proposed changes, believing them to be unacceptable. We were then told that if we did not agree, we would face consequences.”
As a result, the main entrance and check-in area were demolished, restricting guest access, the club claimed. Delivery times have been reduced to a one-hour window from Tuesday to Thursday, health and safety standards have been compromised and visitor parking has been removed.
On-call ambulances and medical personnel were restricted from entering Skorpios Bodrum, and the resort’s license was allegedly cut from 1am to midnight, although it was “not due to noise complaints”.
An updated statement on Scorpios Bodrum’s Instagram account claimed that it was forced to temporarily close “due to a series of restrictions imposed by local business partner Max Royal, making it impossible to operate in accordance with the standards and responsibilities that define Scorpios.”
“This was not a decision we wanted to make, but a decision we were forced to make.”
“We sincerely hope that this does not become Skorpios Bodrum’s permanent closer,” the resort added.
