Everclear Films has signed two English-language productions, a British drama based on the true story of a British transgender prosecutor and a psychological thriller titled 16/32, as it looks to expand into international feature content.
After years of producing commercials and branded content, the company, led by producers Raj Vasudeva and Anuradha Sachdev, has pivoted to long-form storytelling and has a pipeline of three projects.
The first signature project, Making Maya (tentative title), is a British co-production that follows the life of British transgender prosecutor Maya Arputum as she overcomes the barriers of one of the most traditional institutions. The script is complete, early financing talks are underway on the project, and discussions with a director and co-producers are underway.
The second project ’16/32′ is a psychological horror thriller directed by Aditya Nair. The film follows John, a fashion photographer whose life falls apart when he receives a photo frame with a mysterious label on it. As more and more people close to him die, he is forced to confront a malevolent presence and the buried traumas of his own past. The project is in partially funded pre-production and filming is expected to take place in the UK
The third project in development, Badaa Kaam (tentative title), is a Hindi feature from a completed script by director Sumit Kakad. The production received international funding from Luxembourg, Singapore, India and Hong Kong.
The announcement comes in the wake of the continued screening of Everclear’s debut feature Mercy, directed by Mitul Patel and starring Adil Hussain co-starring Vasudeva. The film enjoyed a 14-day theatrical run in India following word-of-mouth support, and made its Dutch premiere on May 8 at an event hosted by The Hague Mayor Jan van Zaanen in support of end-of-life care organizations. International release in additional territories is planned for June, and streaming deals are in the final stages.
The project was announced at the Cannes Film Market.
