‘Masters of the Universe’ stars Nicolas Galitzine, Camila Mendes and Idris Elba in new Save the Children PSA.
Mattel and Amazon’s MGM Studios spot encourages fans of comic book heroes and moviegoers to “give back and harness their own power.” “PSA” will premiere on Tuesday, April 28, which Los Angeles Mayor Tom Bradley designated as “Masters of the Universe Day” in 1987.
“Masters of the Universe has inspired generations to discover their inner power,” said Nancy Molenda, Mattel’s vice president of global corporate events and philanthropy. “Through this campaign, we are bringing that legacy to the children who need it most. In collaboration with Amazon MGM Studios and Save the Children, we will provide children with the confidence, resources and support they need to shape their futures.”
This campaign hopes to change the idea that “You have the power!” We mobilize our fans to help children around the world get a healthy start in life, learn, and stay safe from harm.
“Amazon MGM Studios is proud to support this campaign with Mattel and Save the Children, helping to take the Masters of the Universe philosophy beyond the screen and have an impact in the real world,” said Stephen Bruno, Head of Film Marketing, Amazon MGM Studios. “This is a powerful way to connect fandom and purpose and show that acts of heroism can make a difference in communities everywhere.”
Retail activities that support children, immersive experiential moments, community screenings with local organizations, and #YouHaveThePower fan content will continue to enhance the campaign beyond the film’s global release date on June 5.
The Masters of the Universe campaign is part of Mattel’s Play It Forward initiative, which leverages Mattel’s brands, partners and fans to make a meaningful impact on children around the world. Through Play It Forward, Mattel has supported children in underserved communities, rural areas, and areas affected by crises and disasters, helping ensure they have access to the resources and opportunities they need to thrive.
Mattel has partnered with Save the Children for more than 20 years.
“Our long-standing partnership with Mattel, centered around our shared commitment to helping children learn, play and grow, continues for 20 years,” said Claire Rodger, chief marketing and growth officer at Save the Children US. “Today, we’re thrilled to invite Masters of the Universe fans to join our real-world heroes. Heroism doesn’t stop on screen, and this campaign shows how every action helps shape brighter futures and better outcomes for children in the United States and around the world.”
Galitzine announced on Instagram in June that filming for the film had finished. “It was an honor to take on the responsibility of playing Adam and He-Man,” he wrote. “This was a once-in-a-lifetime role and I gave it my all. I don’t have much to share with you, but I’m very proud of the film we made. I’d like to thank the amazing cast and crew for their hard work.”
In the movie, Mendes plays Teela and Elba plays the role of Duncan. The film is an adaptation of the 1983 animated series. Bumblebee director Travis Knight will direct the film from a script by Chris Butler.
