Budapest-based production company Hero Squared is recruiting partners at Cannes Market for Love Cubed, a service label focused on commercials, music videos and independently financed feature films.
Love Cubed is led by Jonathan Halperyn, a former executive at Focus features, and Daniel Kresmery, a former executive at Korda Studios. The pair have also partnered with veteran producer and director Vandad Kashefi, who Krezmery said of his former colleague at Korda Studio: “Vandad is the perfect partner to work with agencies and creatives and dig deep into the creative concept of a project.”
The company is currently preparing the Canadian-Hungarian co-production “The Controllers,” with support from Telefilm Canada, Jonathan Vanger and Veronica Ferres’ Construction Films for The Wishing Tree, and Ariel Elwes and Oscar winner Cassian Elwes for Elevated. Hero Squared’s Halperin and Klezmeri are producing alongside Vanger, with Kashefi also co-producing. Myriad Pictures will be in charge of overseas sales.
The Controllers, Canadian filmmaker Adam Azimov’s feature directorial debut, is a horror-thriller set in the aftermath of a devastating epidemic that strands a small family on a remote farm. Raised in fear of the mysterious Controller (an infected person who can manipulate others through contact), the two sisters have survived, cut off from the outside world and behind fences, traps, and strict rules meant to protect their lives.
But when a stranger is brought into the house, old fears begin to surface and the fragile dynamics that bind the family begin to crack. As tensions rise and trust erodes, the sisters are forced to question everything they’ve been taught about the world beyond their borders.
Describing the film as “atmospheric, intimate, and unsettling,” producers said that The Controllers “blends psychological horror with grounded dystopian suspense, exploring themes of family, loneliness, and the fear of losing control over your loved ones.”
The Love Cubed and Hero Squared teams have co-produced or co-produced more than 30 features and series, including Thunder Road’s Dust Bunny and the International Emmy Award-winning television series Fallen. Previous releases include Brandon Cronenberg’s “Infinity Pool” for Neon and Focus Works International, and “Mrs. Harris Goes to Paris,” released worldwide by Focus features.
In addition, Love Cubed has delivered five low-budget feature films and nine high-end commercial spots. The company’s work spans podcasts, EPKs, interactive media, and cutting-edge next-generation productions, including multinational filming of the Las Vegas Sphere with Lenovo and Formula 1. He was also nominated for a 2026 Grammy Award for OK Go’s single-take music video “Love.”
“As Hero Squared has grown over the past eight years, we never wanted to stop focusing on the businesses that got us started: commercials, music videos, and independently-funded productions that require a bespoke production approach,” said Halperin.
“Love Cubed is built on a true love of craft, with a philosophy of creating creative-driven, filmmaker-centric partnerships that go beyond simple services,” Kashefi added.
