Lionel Richie’s ex-wife Brenda Harvey-Ritchie has revealed that the singer is recovering after being rushed to hospital during a performance last week.
“Thank you to everyone for your concern,” the songwriter wrote on Thursday’s X News Agency following reports of the 77-year-old musician’s hospitalization.
“Lionel is fine and will be back on stage.”
Ritchie’s representatives did not immediately respond to Page Six’s request for comment.
The “Hello” singer and Harvey Richie, 74, were married from 1975 to 1993 and have a daughter, Nicole Richie, 44.
Additionally, he was married to Diane Alexander from 1995 to 2004, and his ex-husband is the parents of Miles Richie (32) and Sofia Richie (27).
The “All Night Long” singer was performing on the opening night of his “Sing a Song All Night Long” tour Wednesday at the Grand Casino Arena in St. Paul, Minnesota, when he felt dizzy less than an hour into the performance.
Lionel can be seen in the video sitting down several times while singing his 1986 song ‘Dancing on the Ceiling’.
“If you feel dizzy, sit your butt down,” he told the audience.
The Grammy winner tried to overcome his illness before deciding to take a break, but saxophonist Dino Sordo later announced that he had canceled the show because the hitmaker was “not feeling well.”
“He will not be able to continue playing. Further information will become available,” Sordo said.
Live Nation announced that Lionel is canceling two performances scheduled for Thursday and Friday in Chicago and Ohio, respectively.
A social media post read: “Following doctors’ advice to rest and return to health, Lionel Richie has postponed two upcoming performances.”
“Lionel is heartbroken to have these two shows postponed and can’t wait to perform in front of his fans again.”
“We apologize for any inconvenience caused to fans who have tickets for these two performances. The postponed dates will be announced soon,” the statement continued.
However, the “Endless Love” singer is expected to return to the stage with co-headliners Earth, Wind & Fire.
Lionel has not yet personally addressed this incident.
