Amanda Seyfried, Rachel Zegler and Tramell Tillman are set to join the cast of Lin-Manuel Miranda’s upcoming musical film Octet.

Seyfried will play Jessica, Zegler will play Velma, and Tillman will play Marvin. Starring Sheryl Lee Ralph and Paula, Philippa Soo as Carly, Gaten Matarazzo as Toby, Jonathan Groff as Henry, Tillman as Marvin, and Paul-Jordan Jansen as Ed.

The story follows “eight internet-obsessed people who meet in a church basement and lock their phones in a box,” the synopsis says. “This group of people are battling digital addiction and using only the analogue vibrancy of their voices to express their obsessions. With witty lyrics, sparkling harmonies, and virtuosic solos, ‘Octet’ sings about connection, redemption, hope, and how we can truly be with each other.”

This film will be Miranda’s second time as a director. He directed the film version of “Tick, Tick…Boom!” In 2021.

Announcing the news earlier this month, Miranda said: “Ever since I saw Annie Tippe’s film in November 2019, I’ve been obsessed with it, and have been working with Dave on the adaptation for the past six years. Now it’s time to make the film, and I’ve officially partnered with Julie Oh. I’m so happy to be partnering with Julie O, who has been my ride or die in the film industry since Tick Tock…Boom! Thank you to the entire Broadway 5000 team for their hard work in making this film.” reality. ”

“Octet” is based on Dave Malloy’s acclaimed musical. The production, directed by Annie Tippe, opened Off-Broadway at the Signature Theater in New York City on May 19, 2019, and concluded on June 30, 2019. “Octet” premiered on the West Coast in 2022 and ran for five weeks at Berkeley Repertory Theatre.

Producers include Julie Oh, 5000 Broadway Productions’ new head of television and film, John Skidmore of Best Kept Secret Productions and Luis A. Miranda Jr., president of 5000 Broadway Productions. Executive producers are Johnny Holland (Friendship, Dumb Money), Owen Panelli, and Diana DiMenna. The film is financed and executive produced by Sander Jacobs, Karen Jacobs, TodayTix Group, Jeffrey Seller, Teresa Tsai, and John Gore for Broadway.com.

Malloy, a writer and composer, is adapting his musical book for the big screen and will also serve as executive producer.
