Letterboxd and Black Bear bring “4 Favorites” format to theaters

Independent distributor Black Bear has partnered with Letterboxd to bring the platform’s popular “Four Favorites” format to a national audience.

The collaboration coincides with the release of Black Bear’s new thriller film Tuner, starring Leo Woodhall as a “genius piano tuner whose precision discovers an unexpected talent for safecracking and drags him into a dangerous new world.”

The effort, led by Letterboxd, features a live in-theatrical experience designed to engage audiences and generate conversations around the film as they discover the film and share their opinions.

The “Tuner” tour will hit three film festivals, starting with opening night at the Miami Film Festival on April 9th, followed by stops at the Phoenix Film Festival on April 17th and the Philadelphia Film Institute’s Springfest on April 19th. At each stop, attendees will have the opportunity to record their “Four Favorites” in co-branded installations supported by on-site integrations, exclusive benefits, and social frames of custom content.

This partnership will continue through an extensive film festival schedule, with appearances at the San Francisco International Film Festival, opening night at the Boulder Film Festival, and campus screenings at the University of Southern California, Chapman University, and Savannah College of Art and Design. Audience members are encouraged to join Letterboxd after the screening to share their reviews of “The Tuner.”

Tuner was written by Daniel Loher and Robert Ramsey and directed by Academy Award winner Daniel Loher. Havana Rose Liu, Dustin Hoffman, Tovah Feldshuh, Lior Raz and Jean Reno are scheduled to perform with Woodhall.

Following film festival premieres at Telluride, Toronto, Sundance and BFI London, Tuner will open in select theaters in New York and Los Angeles on May 22nd, and in the US on May 29th.
