Lauren Silverman has opened up about becoming pregnant with Simon Cowell’s child while married to her now ex-husband.
The socialite described her pregnancy with son Eric, now 12, in 2013 as “one of the most difficult times of my life” on Tuesday’s episode of her Happy Mom podcast.
“There were so many emotions involved, because it was the end of my marriage,” she said, alluding to her first husband, Andrew Silverman.
“It was one of the most difficult times of my life, because I don’t want to say I regret it, but I don’t regret anything. Do I wish it had happened differently?” Lauren, 48, said. “Of course I will.”
“But I think everything happens for a reason,” she continued.
“That was one of those moments where I knew it was right, that’s what I wanted, and that Simon was the person I wanted to spend my life with. So no matter how I got there, I believed it was meant to be.”
Lauren and Cowell sparked rumors of an affair in 2012, but Cowell’s lawyer denied the allegations, calling them “false” and “reckless.”
But the following year, news broke that the couple were expecting their first child, and a source told the magazine that Lauren was “unhappy with her marriage” to Andrew.
The entrepreneur and Andrew filed for divorce shortly after 10 years of marriage when it became known that she was pregnant, with Andrew releasing a statement saying he was focused on prioritizing their son Adam, who is now 20 years old.
“When we got divorced… it wasn’t a good situation at all. It was the worst,” Lauren said on Tuesday’s podcast. “I’m really proud to say that… It’s been many years since that point. My ex-boyfriend and I, we have a very good relationship.”
she continued. “I was hoping that I could go back and take away the hurt and pain that I caused my ex-husband and Adam…and that’s what happened.”
Lauren admitted that she was in “fight-or-flight mode” because of the media buzz surrounding her pregnancy, and that she was “just trying not to collapse.”
“Everywhere I went…people looked at me that way,” she said. “I was on the cover of every magazine and there were news articles about it. It was really bad.”
“I was like, ‘Okay, this happened. I’m a big girl. I’ve got to suck it up and get on with it. And whatever happens to me, I deserve. I’ll take it, and I’ll just keep my head down.’ And that’s what I’ve been doing for a really long time.”
Cowell and Lauren welcomed their son in February 2014.
Lauren emotionally recounted how the “American Idol” alum’s life “completely changed” shortly after.
TV personality Lauren proposed in December 2021, but has not yet confirmed whether they are already married.
