Kate Gosselin is said to be upset by what her estranged son Colin reveals in his upcoming memoir, In the Shadow of Eight: Surviving the Reality of My Childhood.
“Kate had no idea this book was in the works,” a source told the Daily Mail on Saturday, noting that the TLC alum, 51, had never spoken to Colin since he was institutionalized as a child.
“She never expected something like this to happen. Now she’s in a spiral because she knows it’s going to hurt her fans,” they continued.
Kate, who shares a 22-year-old son with ex-husband Jon Gosselin, is said to have told People that her son’s accusations are based on “zero facts.”
But Colin insists he has “evidence to back it all up.”
“Kate can’t stop this book from being published, but there’s no doubt she wants it,” the source claimed.
Sources say Colin’s sextuplet siblings Arden, Joel, Alexis, Hannah and Leah, as well as twin brothers Carla and Madeline, 25, will also be blindsided by his revelations.
Sources claim that beyond what Kate has said, her brother “doesn’t really know what happened to him.”
Page Six has reached out to Kate’s representatives for comment.
The cover of the book, released on Tuesday, features an old photo of Kate covering Colin’s mouth with her hand.
Colin has promised that his tell-all book, which will be released this fall, will reveal “the shocking side of our picture-perfect family”.
According to the publisher, fans will hear “the never-before-told story of how[Colin]escaped and found his way back from the darkness.”
“This is a reckoning with the dark side of fame: the systems, entourages and institutions that allowed one boy to be wiped out,” the statement added.
In his book, Colin will talk about “his captivity, years of hiding in a basement, and being forced to administer a cocktail of powerful anti-psychotic drugs to an 11-year-old boy.”
The former reality star also talks about “Christmas morning when the presents were picked up as soon as the cameras dropped.”
John and Kate, 49, were married from 1999 to 2009.
In 2007, the family shot to fame on the TLC reality show “John & Kate Plus 8.” After Kate and John’s breakup, the show was renamed Kate Plus 8 and ran until 2017.
In 2018, John was granted sole custody of Colin.
Since moving in with her father, Colin has continued to speak out against her mother, claiming she has been subjected to “child abuse and exploitation” at the hands of the Dancing with the Stars alum.
Colin claimed that he was tied up with cable ties, locked in a basement, and then held in a facility against his will.
However, Kate denies her son’s claims of abuse.
Hannah also ended up living with her father and brother, but Madeline defended her mother.
In 2023, she accused Colin of “physical violence” and “hate speech”, which both the author and John denied.
