On Monday night’s episode of “The Daily Show,” Jon Stewart teased President Donald Trump for his unusual behavior during the bill signing.
Stewart opened the show by explaining that President Trump “made a solid accomplishment” by signing legislation that expedites “the FDA process for new psychedelic drug treatments for veterans suffering from all forms of PTSD and other mental illnesses, including addiction.”
The show then cuts to Trump in the Oval Office talking about research into the psychoactive drug ibogaine, which, in the president’s words, has shown that users “have an 80% to 90% reduction in symptoms of depression and anxiety within a month.” Trump then joked, “Can I have some? I’ll take it. No matter what, I’ll take it.”
“It’s amazing. He’s depressed too,” Stewart joked. “Hey, don’t get discouraged, sir. Trump won’t be president forever. But I have to say, there are little moments in these Oval Office gatherings that are somewhat revealing of the president’s psyche, and it’s a really good starting point for a certified mental health professional.”
Back in the Oval Office, Trump told a room full of his aides: “I don’t have time to be depressed. If I stay busy enough, maybe it’ll work out. That’s my job.”
“I don’t think Donald Trump should treat it with psychedelics, but if he did, would we notice?” Stewart said. “If he takes them, he’ll say, ‘They’re eating dogs and cats! Right next to my beautiful ballroom. By the way, did you know I’m Jesus?’
He added, “But guess what? Given how committed he was to signing this bill, he’s probably already accepted them. I mean, fuck he signed this bill.”
Stewart then took the time to cut back to Trump, who signed the psychedelic bill, saying, “That’s a good bill. Look, Joe? Do you think Biden could do that?”
“‘Have you ever really seen your signature on marijuana?'” Stewart joked. “And, look, I think this is a good thing he did, and this is not political, but the way he signed it was weird as fuck.”
