Denise Richards is reportedly taking the shocking death of ex Patrick Muldoon very hard.
Muldoon died of a sudden heart attack on Sunday. He was 57 years old.
Ms Richards, who dated the actor for nearly five years in the late 90s but had known him since they were teenagers, was “inconsolable”, the Daily Mail reported.
“She’s devastated. Really, really sad,” a source close to the actress told the magazine. “I even say I can’t console her. She can’t stop crying.”
Richards, 55, met Muldoon when she was 19 and he was a 21-year-old in an acting class. They remained close friends until his death.
“Patrick is her ex-boyfriend with whom she had the best relationship,” a source said of the former lovers. “There was a tremendous amount of respect on both sides.”
“They were so friendly that they were more like friends than lovers and were always in touch. She was his biggest supporter and he was hers.”
Page Six reached out to Richards’ representatives for comment, but did not immediately receive a response.
Muldoon spoke about his close friendship with Richards, his co-star in 1997’s Starship Troopers, during an October 2025 appearance on Tori Spelling’s MisSPELLING podcast.
“Neither of us come from a showbiz family. Our families have known each other for years and have checked in with each other to get through the crazy things that everyone goes through,” he said.
He said he remained close with Richards’ children with Charlie Sheen (daughters Laura, 20, and Sami, 22), even though the two had an “on-and-off” relationship and were never romantically together.
“I have a good relationship with Laura and Sami,” he said. “I’ve known them since they were born, so I have a good relationship with both of them.”
Laura paid tribute to Muldoon on Instagram on Monday, revealing that she had “begged” her mother to get back together with him.
“We thought you were someone who was meant to be in our lives forever,” she wrote in an emotional tribute to the “Days of Our Lives” alum.
“I really miss hearing my mom laugh on the phone with you. I’m going to miss hearing your voice because it always brightened my day. But I know my mom will do it more, but we’ll never stop talking about you,” she also said.
Laura thanked Muldoon for being her mother’s best friend.
“The bond between you two was so special that no one could touch it,” she wrote. “When I think of my mother, I think of you. You all came as a package, and I am so grateful to have known you and witnessed a friendship so pure and special.”
